The history of Legends of Chima (2013-2015)

Chima debuted in January 2013 as LEGO's second homegrown adventure theme alongside Ninjago, complete with its own mythology. The land of Chima is a world of talking animals: tribes of Lions, Crocodiles, Eagles, Wolves, Gorillas and Ravens compete for CHI, energy orbs that power warriors and vehicles. Its heroes are Laval the lion and Cragger the crocodile, former friends on opposite sides of the conflict. The theme was backed by an animated TV series and the Speedorz line of ripcord-powered vehicles. The final wave, featuring the ice tribes and the Phoenix, hit shelves in 2015, after which LEGO closed the theme following three years of production.

Why Chima is a cult classic today

Kids who played with Chima in 2013 are teenagers and young adults now, and that is the strongest engine of nostalgia in the brick market. Chima's animal minifigures never returned in any other theme, so collectors can only find them in the original sets. The largest models, like the Lion CHI Temple (70010) or Cragger's Command Ship (70006), fetch well above their original RRP on the secondary market, especially sealed. A handful of stores are still clearing stock, so it pays to compare offers before the leftovers disappear for good.

Frequently asked questions: LEGO Chima

Will LEGO bring back the Chima theme?
LEGO has not announced any return of Legends of Chima. No new set has been released since 2015, and the company very rarely revives finished story worlds. Occasional references appear in other lines, but nothing currently points to a full comeback. The only sources of sets are remaining store stock and the secondary market.
How much are LEGO Chima sets worth today?
It depends on the set and its condition. Sealed large sets such as the Lion CHI Temple (70010) can cost several times their original RRP, while smaller models and Speedorz appreciate more slowly. You'll find current prices from tracked stores in the most-valuable-sets section above, and a broader value-growth ranking on our LEGO investment page.
Can you still buy LEGO Chima sets in stores?
Yes, though the selection shrinks every year. Some Polish stores still carry single sets from the theme's final waves, and marketplace listings appear regularly. We monitor prices across 40+ stores, so this page only shows sets with currently available offers.
