LEGO Vikings: theme history and prices today

Vikings is a short LEGO theme from 2005-2006: horn-helmeted warriors face monsters from Norse mythology, from the Fenris wolf to the Midgard serpent. Just a handful of sets and twenty years of age make it one of the most collectible themes of its era today. Below is the history and current prices.

The history of LEGO Vikings (2005-2006)

The theme debuted in 2005 as a classic action line set in the world of Norse legends. Vikings defended themselves against mythical beasts: the Fenris wolf, the Nidhogg dragon, the Midgard serpent and a giant raven. At its heart stood the Viking fortress besieged by a dragon (7019), joined by warships, catapults and smaller monster skirmishes. The beasts were brick-built in a style close to today's display models, which was rare at the time. After two years and one full wave of sets, LEGO ended production.

Why Vikings is a holy grail today

Twenty years since launch, a small set count and no continuation of any kind make Vikings one of LEGO's rarest adventure themes. The brick-built Norse monsters never got counterparts in any later line, and the horned helmets and shields remained unique elements for years. Sealed boxes have practically vanished from circulation, and complete built sets with instructions reach secondary-market prices incomparable to the originals. It's a theme bought with the heart today, by collectors who remember it from childhood.

Frequently asked questions: LEGO Vikings

Will LEGO bring back the Vikings theme?
LEGO has not announced a return of the Vikings theme. The viking motif has returned in single sets, like the Ideas viking village, but a separate theme with Norse-mythology monsters was never revived. The original 2005-2006 sets are practically only available on the secondary market.
How much are LEGO Vikings sets worth today?
Vikings is among the most expensive retro themes per set. Complete copies of the fortress (7019) or the larger ships cost multiples of their original prices on the secondary market, and sealed boxes appear sporadically at collector prices. If any tracked store has an active offer, you'll see it in the price section above.
What did the LEGO Vikings theme include?
The theme comprised a handful of sets released in 2005-2006: the Viking fortress with an attacking dragon (7019), warships and battle boats, and smaller clashes between warriors and beasts, including the Fenris wolf and the Midgard serpent. Every set paired viking minifigures with a brick-built monster.
